    About Filler Dissolver

Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid filler. It's used to reverse filler that's overfilled, migrated, lumpy, or simply not what you wanted. It works within 24–48 hours and is the same enzyme used in emergencies if filler is ever placed in a blood vessel.

At Plump we treat dissolving as a serious, intentional treatment — not a quick fix. We start with a thorough consultation, often with photos and a careful map of where existing filler is sitting. We dose conservatively because hyaluronidase can also break down some of your own natural hyaluronic acid in the tissue, which can leave the area looking deflated temporarily.

Most patients need one session, though stubborn or older filler may need a follow-up. We're often the second opinion patients seek after filler placed elsewhere — and we'll always tell you honestly whether dissolving is the right call.

    In depth

    What hyaluronidase actually does

Hyaluronidase cleaves the bonds holding hyaluronic acid gel together, breaking cross-linked filler back into fragments your body clears within a day or two. It is the same enzyme used urgently if filler is ever placed into or compressing a blood vessel, which is why every practice injecting hyaluronic acid should keep it stocked.

It only works on hyaluronic acid. Sculptra, Radiesse, and permanent products such as silicone or polymethyl methacrylate are not affected by it. If you do not know what was injected into your face, we will spend time establishing that before we treat.

The enzyme does not distinguish perfectly between injected filler and the hyaluronic acid naturally present in your tissue, which is why dosing matters. Aggressive dissolving can leave an area temporarily flatter than it was before you ever had filler. Native hyaluronic acid regenerates within weeks; the interim can be unsettling if nobody warned you.

    How we approach a dissolve

We treat dissolving as a real clinical procedure, not a reset button. Consultation comes first: photographs, a careful history of what was placed and when, and palpation to map where product is actually sitting — which is frequently not where the patient assumes.

We then dose conservatively and target specific deposits rather than flooding an area. Migrated lip filler above the vermilion border, for example, can usually be addressed precisely without dissolving the product doing useful work inside the lip.

Some patients arrive wanting everything gone. Often the better outcome is partial — removing the migrated or over-projected portion and leaving the rest — and we will make that case if we think it serves you. You decide.

    Cost, sessions, and timeline

Lip filler dissolving, facial filler dissolving, and emergency dissolving are each $300 per vial. Membership pricing does not apply to dissolving.

Most patients need one vial and one session. Older, denser, or heavily cross-linked product sometimes needs a second pass, which we schedule at least two weeks out so the first round has fully resolved and we can see what remains.

You will see change within 24 hours and the full effect by 48-72 hours. Mild swelling on the day of treatment is normal and can briefly make the area look larger before it looks smaller.

    Refilling after a dissolve

We ask patients to wait at least two weeks before any new filler, and often four. The tissue needs time to settle, native hyaluronic acid needs to regenerate, and injecting into a recently dissolved area risks the new product breaking down early if any enzyme remains active.

That interval is also clinically useful. Seeing your face with no filler in it — sometimes for the first time in years — tells us far more about what you actually need than a plan drawn while old product is still in place.

When you do refill, we usually rebuild with less than was there before. Patients who dissolve are rarely asking to return to exactly where they were.

    Second opinions and emergencies

A large share of the dissolving we do is on filler placed elsewhere. You do not need to have been a Plump patient, and we are not going to lecture you about where you had it done.

If you have signs of a vascular occlusion after filler anywhere — escalating pain out of proportion, blanching or mottled skin, dusky discoloration, or any vision change — this is an emergency. Vision change means the emergency room immediately. For the rest, contact the practice that treated you and, if you cannot reach them, call us.

Time matters enormously in an occlusion. Do not wait to see whether it improves overnight.

    Good for

    • Patients unhappy with existing HA filler results
    • Anyone with migrated, lumpy, or overfilled HA filler
    • Patients seeking a 'reset' before starting fresh with a new plan

    Not ideal if

    • Patients with non-HA filler (Sculptra, Radiesse, silicone) — hyaluronidase doesn't work on these
    • Pregnant or breastfeeding patients
    • Known allergy to hyaluronidase or bee venom
    • Active skin infection at the treatment site

    Questions about filler dissolver

Most of the dissolving happens within 24–48 hours. Full settling takes about 1–2 weeks as any swelling resolves and the area normalizes.

Hyaluronidase preferentially targets the filler, but it can also break down some of your own natural hyaluronic acid in the area, which can cause temporary deflation. Your tissue regenerates this within weeks.

We recommend waiting at least 2 weeks — sometimes longer — before placing new filler so we can see your true baseline and avoid working over residual swelling.

Pricing is per session and posted on our Treatments page. Cost depends on how much area needs to be treated.

Yes. We frequently dissolve filler placed elsewhere. Bring any information you have about the original product and amounts — though we can usually work without it.

The main risk is allergic reaction to hyaluronidase, which is rare. Some patients also experience temporary deflation in the treated area. Your injector will review risks at consultation.
