Treatment
LaseMD
A non-ablative thulium laser that resurfaces, evens tone, and softens pigmentation with minimal downtime.
The short answer
LaseMD is Lutronic's non-ablative fractional thulium laser, used to lift pigmentation, sun damage, and surface texture with minimal downtime. At Plump it is $750 per session ($675 for members), takes 30-45 minutes including numbing, and most patients do three to four sessions a month apart before annual maintenance.
About LaseMD
LaseMD is Lutronic's FDA-cleared non-ablative fractional thulium laser — a gentle resurfacing tool that targets pigmentation, sun damage, and surface texture without the downtime of more aggressive lasers. It works by delivering thousands of microscopic columns of energy into the skin, prompting a controlled wound-healing response that lifts pigment, smooths tone, and stimulates new collagen.
It's often called the 'Korean glow laser' or 'lunchtime laser' because most patients walk out with mild pinkness that settles within hours to a day. At Plump we frequently pair LaseMD with topical cosmeceutical infusions applied during treatment — vitamin C, tranexamic acid, or growth-factor serums driven into freshly opened channels for amplified results.
A session takes around 30–45 minutes, including topical numbing. Most patients describe it as warm with a light prickling sensation. You'll see immediate glow within a few days and continued improvement in tone, texture, and clarity over the following weeks. A series of 3–4 sessions spaced a month apart delivers the most noticeable refinement; many patients then maintain with one or two treatments a year.
In depth
How a fractional thulium laser works
LaseMD delivers thousands of microscopic columns of thermal energy into the skin, treating a fraction of the surface at a time and leaving healthy tissue between each column intact. That untreated tissue is what drives rapid healing — it is the reason a fractional laser can do meaningful work without the week of downtime a fully ablative resurfacing requires.
The 1927nm thulium wavelength is absorbed strongly by water and sits relatively superficially, which is exactly where pigment problems live. That makes it particularly effective on melasma-adjacent discoloration, sun spots, and general dullness compared to deeper-penetrating devices.
It is non-ablative: the surface stays largely intact and the energy works below it. You are not left with an open wound, which is why patients are typically presentable the next day.
The cosmeceutical infusion step
Immediately after the laser pass, the skin's microchannels are transiently open and absorption is dramatically increased. We use that window to drive in a topical chosen for your concern — vitamin C for brightness and antioxidant support, tranexamic acid for pigment, or a growth-factor serum for repair.
This step is a meaningful part of why the treatment is called the glow laser. The laser does the structural work; the infusion is what patients notice in the mirror three days later.
Which serum we use is a clinical decision made at the appointment based on what your skin is doing that week, not a fixed package.
What a session feels like, and downtime
Plan for 30-45 minutes including about 20 minutes of topical numbing. The treatment itself is warm with a light prickling sensation — most patients describe it as very manageable and considerably milder than they expected from the word laser.
Afterward the skin is pink and feels like a mild sunburn, usually settling within a few hours to a day. Days two and three often bring a fine, sandpapery texture and light flaking as treated tissue sheds; it is subtle and covers with makeup.
Glow arrives within a few days. Improvement in tone, clarity, and texture continues over the following weeks as collagen remodels.
Series, cost, and how it compares
Sessions are $750, or $675 for members. A series of three to four spaced roughly a month apart delivers the clearest refinement; many patients then maintain with one or two treatments a year.
Against microneedling at $500, LaseMD costs more per session and is the better tool for pigmentation, sun damage, and overall clarity. Microneedling is the better value for texture, pores, and shallow scarring. They are complementary rather than competing, and plenty of patients do both across a year.
Against BioRePeel at $450, LaseMD is a substantially deeper treatment with real, if short, downtime. BioRePeel maintains; LaseMD changes.
Candidacy and aftercare
Good candidates have sun damage, uneven pigmentation, dullness, or early textural change and can commit to strict sun protection. Deeper skin tones can be treated, but settings must be conservative and we will discuss post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation risk honestly before booking.
For a week afterward: mineral sunscreen daily and reapplied, no active skincare for 48-72 hours, no picking at flaking skin, and no saunas, hot yoga, or heavy sweating for 48 hours. Sun exposure in the days after a laser is the reliable way to undo the result.
We postpone for active infection or cold sore outbreaks, recent isotretinoin, recent sun exposure or tanning, and during pregnancy. A history of cold sores warrants antiviral prophylaxis if we are treating the perioral area.
Good for
- Adults with sun damage, brown spots, or uneven skin tone
- Patients managing melasma (with appropriate skin prep)
- Anyone wanting brighter, more refined texture with minimal downtime
- People seeking a 'lunchtime' glow treatment before an event
- Patients building a long-term skin-health plan with periodic maintenance
Not ideal if
- Pregnant or breastfeeding patients
- Active sunburn, recent intense tanning, or self-tanner on the skin
- Active eczema, infection, or open lesions in the treatment area
- Recent isotretinoin (Accutane) use within the last 6 months
- Very deeply pigmented skin types without a provider consultation first
